Care Recommendation
Caring for your wig is essential for its longevity and natural appearance. On this page you will find my tips on caring for your wig from Mel's Wig Collection.
Wash
When washing, the motto always applies: as often as necessary, as rarely as possible.
To help ensure the longevity of your wig, you should try not to put excessive strain on it. Since the hair is no longer connected to the scalp, it is no longer automatically supplied with nutrients. I recommend washing the wig every 2 weeks. Ideally, you should have several wigs so that you can alternate between them.
Make sure to use high-quality products whenever possible. Avoiding sulfates, alcohol and perfume in the products can help protect the wig hair from unnecessary stress. There are endless care products. Focus on sulfate-free products. Using products for colored hair can help protect the color of the wig and slow down fading.
Personally, I wash my hair as follows:
- Comb hair thoroughly to remove any knots (be careful)
- Wet hair under running lukewarm or cold water
( never use hot water ) - Put a small amount of shampoo in your hands and spread it on the wig (do not rub it in)
- Rinse out shampoo
- Apply conditioner / mask -> leave out the knots of the lace front to prevent the knots from loosening due to the products
- Allow the conditioner / mask to work -> I like to leave a mask on for several hours or overnight. To do this, I wrap some cling film around the wig
- Rinse products thoroughly
- Allow hair to air dry if possible
Be very careful when combing a wet wig. Use a wet brush or a wide tooth comb. Start from the ends and work your way up.
Styling
You can style MWC's real hair wigs with styling tools such as straighteners and curling irons. The motto here is: as often as necessary, as rarely as possible. The heat from the tools damages the hair and dries it out. So make sure you don't use them too often and at low temperatures.
Always use heat protection before styling your wigs with hot styling tools.
Everyday
In everyday life, you will probably use glue to fix your lace front. Here, too, you should use the products in moderation.
Be sure to be very gentle when removing it. The lace front is the most sensitive part of your wig. Use special glue remover for lace front wigs. Glue like got2b can be carefully removed under lukewarm water.
Color
The color of your human hair wig can fade over time. The frequency of washing and wearing it in the sun plays a big role in this.
If your wig has faded significantly at some point, it can be re-dyed with salon-quality hair dye.
